Help us shape Hive NYC’s 2012 goals

From the keyboard of Chris Lawrence, Project Director, Hive Learning Network NYC

As December descends upon us I find myself deep in the tradition of setting and establishing goals heading into the promise of a new year.  Of course this task always feels contrived because the time you carve out to do it is jealously sucking up the bandwidth to accomplish your current to-do list!  Regardless, I’m quite giddy about mapping out the next year for Hive NYC and what I think are some exciting goals.

Here’s a refresher on the recent Mozilla/Hive phase shift. One aspect that has been quite eye opening has been Mozilla’s “work in the open” approach. As someone whose primary experience has been on the institutional side, the radical openness that Mozilla embraces is new to me. That said, I think the nature of open source projects and collective approaches is an obvious match for the work we do in the Hive, and as the network has matured – even in just the past few months – we have done a better job of employing this MO.

So here I sit, belaboring and wordsmithing Hive NYC’s 2012 goals while feeling a little lonely and fatigued.  Time to throw open the hood and see what you think.

So I present a working draft of goals for Hive NYC in 2012. I’ve started to describe each of these goals in further detail on this etherpad. You will see seven goals outlined, I am curious if you think that seems like to many, not enough and depending on your thoughts how you would edit or expand. Please (please!) join me in shaping our upcoming goals by editing the etherpad and/or joining a conversation in the comments section of this post.
